About Us

About North Tiverton Fire District

The North Tiverton Fire District (NTFD) is an independent, quasi-municipal water utility established by the Rhode Island General Assembly on April 23, 1926, to provide safe, reliable drinking water and maintain the infrastructure necessary to support fire protection.

NTFD operates and maintains the public water system serving homes, businesses, schools, and public facilities throughout its service area.

NTFD is governed by an elected Administrative Board responsible for establishing policy and providing oversight. Day-to-day operations are carried out by professional staff responsible for operating, maintaining, and improving the public water system. Together, they are committed to protecting public health, maintaining dependable infrastructure, and providing excellent customer service.

Did you know?

NTFD operates independently of the Town of Tiverton. District operations are funded through customer water rates and District property taxes, not Town tax revenue.

Answers to common questions

Water bills are issued quarterly in January, April, July, and October and are due by the end of each billing month.

Meters are read during the month prior to each billing cycle.

Pay online, by phone, by mail, or in person. NTFD accepts cash, checks, ACH, Credit* and Debit* cards.

*Processing fees apply to credit and debit card payments.

If the leak is outside the building, such as a water service or water main, contact NTFD immediately. If the leak is inside the building after the meter, shut off the water and contact a licensed plumber.

To have your water service turned on or off at the street, please contact NTFD. Applicable service fees are listed in the District's current Fee Schedule. Each property also has an interior shutoff valve located before the water meter.

Yes — EyeOnWater is available to customers with compatible cellular water meters. If your property is equipped with a compatible cellular water meter, register for EyeOnWater to monitor your water usage, receive leak alerts, and better understand your household's water consumption.

Not sure if your meter is compatible? Contact NTFD. Our staff can determine your eligibility and, if appropriate, discuss scheduling a meter replacement as part of the District's ongoing meter modernization program. A link to EyeOnWater can be found in the QR code below.

NTFD utilizes the Town of Tiverton CodeRED system to notify customers about water main breaks, emergency repairs, planned outages, and other time-sensitive service information. We encourage all customers to register online.

*Available to customers with compatible cellular water meters.

Cross-Connections & Backflow Prevention

Cross-connections can allow contaminants to enter the drinking water system. Before installing or modifying plumbing, irrigation systems, private wells, or other water systems, contact NTFD to determine whether additional protection may be required.
